Choi Handley

Choi Syn Banks-Handley Choi Syn Banks Handley was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 15, 1968 as the oldest daughter and child of Olivia and Jerry Banks. She spent her earlier years matriculating through the public school system of Chicago, Illinois, graduating from Curie High School. She then attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois and graduated from SIU-Edwardsville, with a Bachelor’s Degree in nursing and a minor in Chemistry. She loved working with the elderly patients and preferred working in nursing homes as a nurse or Director of Nursing. At a young age, Choi accepted the Lord and was baptized in Carbondale at Bethel AME Church. She later converted to Catholicism in order to join her children and her husband in the practice of their Catholic faith. On May 7, 1994, Choi was joined in holy matrimony to Eric Craig Handley, Sr. To that union, three sons were born, Eric Handley, Jr., Grant Handley, and Jason Handley. In her personal life, Choi was a natural caregiver and a great counselor and listener to family members experiencing the need for support or help. She spent many hours of her free time helping her devoted parents. She was a dedicated mother to her three sons and was forever buying them gifts and taking them out to dinner to their favorite restaurants. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Choi loved playing the flute, reading, interior designing, and attending concerts. To cherish her memories and continue her legacy, Choi leaves her devoted sons, Eric Handley, Jr., Grant Christopher Handley, and Jason Erwin Handley; her loving mother and father, Oliva Banks and Jerry Banks, Sr.; her beloved sisters Isis Banks, Alia Banks, and Iris Banks; her protective brothers, Jerry Banks, Jr., Osiris Banks, Amenra Banks, and Diru Banks; her benevolent mother- in-law, Louisa Thompson; the generous and kind father of her sons and her ex-husband, Eric Handley, Sr.; her caring aunts, Toni, June, Sheila, and Dot; her proud uncles, Dave, Ben, and Hercules; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, co-workers, and friends.
