Eddie Turner

Eddie Turner (affectionately known as Mr. Turner) was born January 29, 1930, in Brownsville, TN to Bennie Turner (08/12/1897 - 03/01/1966) and Annie Sue Vaulx Turner (10/17/1898 - 05/06/1979). He was one of 15 children - seven brothers and seven sisters. He received his education in the Haywood County, TN Public school system before joining and honorably serving in the United States Army in 1952 (Korean War). A firm believer in God, Mr. Turner received Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age. He relocated to St. Louis, MO in 1948 and married Sallie Turner (03/27/1932 - 08/08/1991) on Thanksgiving Day, 1949. Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Sallie Turner, brothers (Ben, Leroy, Ollie Joe, John Chester, Jesse, Albert, and Ervin), sisters (Mildred, Annie Mae, Virginia, Ruth, and Jennie), and a special niece, Pat Hopkins. To celebrate and cherish his memory, he leaves two sons, Greg Turner and (son of Eddie Turner and Hortense Turner) Kevin Darnell Turner (LaKeasha Veasley) - grandson, Tyler Kaimi Turner; (daughter of Eddie Turner and Mildred Anderson) Darlene Elizabeth Turner McDuffie (Curtiss McDuffie) - granddaughter, Kennedy Milann McDuffie; honorary children, Gail Clark Ramseur (sister to Kevin Darnell), Derek Anderson and Michelle Anderson Douglas (siblings to Darlene); sisters, Violet Braddock and Gladys Carney; special niece, Ann Green Gomila; and special nephew, Kerry Turner. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and family. Mr. Turner loved family and life. He enjoyed spending time with family and other loved ones, cooking, and his favorite pastime of playing the lottery. Among his many special qualities, he will be remembered fondly for bringing levity with his endearing phrases like, “Macht nichts (Mox nix),” “Beats me,” and “Don’t take no wooden nickels!” He departed this world shortly after his last visit with his son and daughter, confident in his faith in God and eternal life.
