Marva Louise Pegues

Marva Louise Porter was born April 29, 1946 in Metropolis, IL to the Union of George and Captola Porter, who both proceeded her in death. She graduated Joppa High School in 1964. She obtained a certificate from Paul Brown Secretarial School; an Associate Degree in Communications from Forest Park Community College; and Advanced Studies at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She was employed 18 years at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and 18 years at Forest Park Community College, until she retired. Marva gave her life to Christ at the age of 9, at Mt Hebron MB Church where she was also baptized. She served faithfully at Mt Hebron MB Church until she moved to St. Louis. After moving to St. Louis, Marva joined St. Timothy MB Church under the leadership of Dr. Arthur L Hamilton. She remained a faithful member there and also met her husband, deceased, Pastor Lee E Pegues. August 1, 1970 Marva married the love of her life, Lee E Pegues, whom she affectionately called sweet baby. To this Union, Marva and Lee welcomed a son, Lenard Pegues. Lee with Marva by his side, founded West Travelers MB church in 1978, where they served as Pastor and First Lady for 43 years together. She served as an avid Sunday school teacher for the intermediate class, she was a member on the motherboard and President of the hospitality committee. She also wrote plays and literature that was performed at the church. She enjoyed writing poetry and short stories. Marva and Lee were together, 51 years in holy matrimony before he proceeded her in death. Marva believed that LOVE was her gift! She was always there with the helping hand for whoever needed her. She had a strong faith in God that had her steadfast on doing his work. Romans 8:28 "For we know that all things work together for the good of those that love the Lord and are called according to his purpose" was her favorite Bible scripture and she certainly lived by it, while walking and fulfilling her purpose. Marva has joined her loved ones that proceeded her in death; mother Captola, Father George, husband Lee, brothers; Lonnie, Curtis and Jesse, sisters; Nothala, Georgia Mae, Martha Lee and daughter Darlynn. She leaves to cherish her, never ending memory, three children; Lenard(Deborah), Tanya and Walter. Sisters; Sharon (Lonnie), Aquila Nadine. Brothers; Curtis, Brian (Pam), and Marcus (Pam). 13 grand children and 18 great grand children that she loved and adored. A host of nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. Several close friends, church members, and co workers who never left her side!
