May 2, 1930 - February 15, 2022
Clifford Hampton was conceived into this world on May 2, 1930, by parents Jesse and Gertrude Hampton in the City of Saint Louis, Missouri. He was the oldest of two boys. His father Jesse, mother Gertrude, and younger brother Jesse Hampton Jr. preceded him in death. Raised by his parents in the City, Clifford was well educated through the St. Louis Public Schools receiving graduate diplomas from Divoll School. Clifford knew at an early age that he not only wanted to make a difference in the world but also make a statement that it’s not where you come from that defines you but the example you choose to show that will make others follow. He made the courageous choice to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Navy where he served being the only man of color in his crew, until being discharged with honors. Not long after being honorably discharged from the Navy, Clifford joined the traffic division team working for the City of St. Louis. His outstanding work ethic and amazing citizenship earned him the utmost respect from the Mayor of St. Louis on the day he retired. Clifford enjoyed the simple things such as walks, sightseeing, sitting with fellow veterans sharing stories about his time in the Navy, and the things he got to see, he was a very wise man, he believed that although no man is created perfect in the eyes of GOD all men were created equal. Clifford was a well-known member at True Life Baptist Church. Clifford left this world peacefully on February 15, 2022, at the age of 91. Preceding him in death was his ex-wife Shirley Mae Hampton, Mary Valentine, and last known love Louetta Hughes, four children Cynthia, Clifford, Lorraine, Arvin, and one grandson Nathaniel. He leaves his legacy to: his only living Son Tyrone, 60 grandchildren, over a hundred second, third, and fourth-generation grandchildren, and a huge host of loved ones and friends. Special acknowledgment to grandsons Charles and Conyade, Special acknowledgment to granddaughter Antoinette (second generation).
