Glyneece Alexander

August 23, 1926 - July 16, 2018

Glyneece Wilhelmina Eustace Alexander, 1926-2018, was born in Saint Louis, Missouri on August 23 – the ninth and youngest child of Chancel and Leanner Eustace. Glyneece attended St. Louis Public schools from elementary through the attainment of her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Stowe Teachers College, launching her into a long successful career in education. She later obtained a Master’s Degree in School Administration. After graduating from Stowe Teachers College, Glyneece began her teaching career in St. Louis Public Schools, a career which spanned three decades as an eighth-grade teacher and elementary school administrator. Her impact on the children and teachers in the St. Louis Public schools is immeasurable. Even retirement could not contain her passion for teaching. She continued “telling people the best way to do things” as an adult literacy educator at a local junior college. In 1980, Glyneece married her devoted husband, Eric Alexander. Together as a retired couple, they traveled extensively around the world expanding her collection of folk dolls from every era (one of her many passions). When they were not traveling the globe and learning about new cultures, they supported the local art scene by attending plays and concerts, as well as participating in other social events. Wherever Glyneece was, and whatever she was doing, she was always the epitome of class and style. She enjoyed creating culinary masterpieces for her guests and members of various organizations such as her sisters in Delta Sigma Theta and St. Phillip’s Evangelical Lutheran Church - St. Louis (ELCA,) where she served in many capacities over her more than 50 years of membership. Glyneece’s passion for teaching, traveling, cooking, the arts, and social involvement was equaled only by her devotion to her family who will miss her deeply and remember her with great affection. She is survived: by one brother, Lawrence, and numerous nieces and nephews.
