Mary Ella Petty Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mary Ella Coleman (Petty) was born at Browning, Mississippi, to Robert and Clara Coleman. She was the 7th child of 10 children. Mary confessed a hope in Jesus Christ at an early age, and under the leadership of Reverend Lee Morgan and baptized in Big Sand Creek and became a member of Malmaison Chapter Church. She remained a faithful member until she moved to Banks, Mississippi, and joined Saint Lukes Baptist Church. In 1940 she met and later was united in Holy Matrimony to Hardy Nelson Petty. Mary was a devoted member in Church activities. In 1948 the Petty Family relocated to Saint Louis, Missouri, and later joined the Mercy Seat Baptist Church under the Ministry of Reverend Roosevelt Brown, and she was a dedicated member. In 1954 she became a member of the Friendly Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Myrtie Williams and remained a faithful member until health issues became a problem. Mary worked at the Crown Café located at 2610 Franklin Ave for 17 years and the Carr Square Village Housing Authority for 10 years until she retired. Mary had her serious moments and an "attitude of worrying about others", but she would always remember" Jesus I cannot do anything concerning this situation; therefore I leave this in your hands. Mary always had a humorous side and enjoyed making people laugh. Mary also loved to cook and would feed anyone, whether it was a neighbor or a stranger. They could always go by Miss Mary's or Mrs. Petty's house {as she was commonly referred to.} Mary was the last member of the Coleman Family, all of her brothers and sisters preceded her in death. 1 daughter Jacqueline Denise Petty and 3 grandchildren preceded her in death. Mary went home to be with Jesus on November 18th, 2021. Mary leaves to mourn: two Sons James Edward Petty (Carolyn) and Robert Earl Petty, two daughters Clareece Hughes (William) and Josephine Petty; 28 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
