Patsy Lee Simpson was born May 29, 1922, in Frierson, Louisiana to the late Willie and Rebecca Williams (nee Evans). She was preceded in death by her devoted husband Joseph Simpson, Sr., daughter Effie Jean Ballard, son Joseph Simpson, Jr., and her siblings, Elijah Melvin James (aka “Brother” or “Big Uncle), Equilla, Melviana, Willie Jr. (aka “Man”), Lavada (aka “Chuckie”) and Charles Andrew (aka “Pop”). Patsy was lovingly called “Baby Sister.” At an early age, Patsy professed her belief in Christ and was baptized at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Kingston, Louisiana. In 1943, she and her husband moved to Saint Louis, Missouri and joined Zion Traveler’s Missionary Baptist Church under Reverend Arthur Mitchell. She established the Health Unit, the Deaconess Board, joined the Motherboard under Mother Jackson and subsequently became President. Also, Mother Simpson was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Zion Traveler’s Sunday School. She worked tirelessly in her church, visiting the sick and shut-in and helped "The Citizens of Pagedale" donate food to those who are in need within her community. Mother Simpson was a seamstress by trade and always said look for the union label when buying garments. She enjoyed tending her garden, baking cakes, preparing holiday meals, traveling, attending Family reunions, visiting children and grandchildren in Denver and San Francisco. She loved being active and on the move. Mother Simpson leaves to cherish her memory: three children James C. (Ollie) Simpson, Gloria J. (Robert) Warren, and Betty J. (Nathan) Hooks; eight grandchildren Denise (Harold) Walker, Amos T. (Harvena) Patrick, IV, Rebecca A. Warren, Robert L. (Jasmine) Warren, III, Blake C.
